Reeling Them In
If you think the best ending to a day at the beach is an evening of thought-provoking film, this one’s for you. The Miami International Film Festival kicks off March 7, ushering in ten days of feature and short films from 38 countries. Under the direction of Miami Dade College, this highly anticipated annual event brings together filmmakers and film lovers, actors and actresses for screenings and programs designed to encourage artistic expression and excellence. We’re not ones to name-drop but, between you and me, heavy hitters like Spike Lee, Gregory Peck and Helen Hunt have strolled the festival’s red carpet in recent years so prepare for a few star sightings. The event spreads across nearly a dozen venues, including the Olympia Theater and South Beach’s own Cinematheque, making it easy for guests of South Beach hotels to participate. One we can't wait to see? Emilio Estefan’s inspiring documentary, An Unbreakable Bond, making its world debut on March 11.
Address: Olympia Theater and other venues around town.
